Before attending the JFF this week I decided to head up to my parents house to see my mom since it's her birthday tomorrow(I know, I'm so sweet) and while I'm here I decided to go a bit of digging. I know there are a number of Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars on the premises and I figured the place to start looking was the attic which no one had entered in over 10 years.
My parents house will be 170 years old come this winter, so I figured it would be a good idea to prepare myself to enter a space built when cocaine was prescribed to children for toothaches. Armed with Febreeze(for the dust) and an Electrolux(for the spider webs/mountains of mouse shit) I cracked open the door and entered the void. What I found completely surprised me and may have a profound effect on the known universe.
Do you know what that is?! That right there is proof that my parents at the very least set foot in Volvo and Saab dealership and maybe even considered getting one. All these years I thought that the decision to follow the Subaru GL with a Taurus wagon was cut and dry but no, my childhood was nearly one of a Swedeish nature.
It's going to take some time for me to come to grips with this information. Here I thought that my mom and dad were truly anti SAAB/Volvo but as it turns out, they actually thought about owning one. It's a lot to process, I'll likely have to discuss it at length with my therapist bartender when I get back to Los Angeles. For now I'll just keep thumbing through these perfectly preserved pamphlets, wondering what life would have been like growing up in a 940 or 960 wagon instead of a Taurus.
*If any of you Jalops that are SAAB/Volvo fans would like these brochures I'm willing to part with them for the price of shipping. Would rather have someone enjoy them than they be thrown out. If interested shoot me an email theroadlessdriven@gmail.com
Andrew Maness writes about cars because he has one and also has a computer. He's been known to drunkenly Tweet as !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and upload photos to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . He also has a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and thinks talking about himself in the 3rd person is really weird but knows it's necessary if he wants to be taken seriously as an Oppo contributor.

Yeah I went hard with the vacuum before ascending the stairs. My dad was surprised I didn't encounter the house bat...

the one I use most is a 1966 and it is still a champ. Like this one exactly (I thought I took some pics when I restored it a few weekends ago but of course not)

I was born in 1966, and I remember having that exact same vacuum. Even the same color. I remember being fascinated with the handle on the top and the huge on/off switch. I think our accessories may have been dark blue, though. But the canister was the same. Wow.

in THAT case, here is a pic I found of my daughter playing electrolux cowgirl 2 years ago, pre restoration
! Cool story! And my accessories match the canister like yours did

If they were Subaru brochures they'd be framed. It's actually pretty crazy that there aren't any in the family seeing as that was the first car my parents had and grandparents had a few. Guess that's what happens when ya always buy used.

I don't think I'd have enough wall space if I framed the Subaru brochures I have. Most of mine are from 2009 and later, but I have a few older ones mixed in. It should be fun to look back at these in a decade or two.
I have some of the brochures for cars we've had in the past (1999 Camry, 1990 Geo Prizm), but I'm missing others (94 Taurus, 01 Passat). I guess I'll have to track those down eventually.
